Various ways of scorching the plains - Chibi edition

alright, how many have wondered about the number of fire-tactics used throughout the Chibi arc? not counting volume 47 (since it's basically a warmup volume to the operations in Changban and Chibi), I have noted at least 9 different instances

before the count, I'd first like to note a few auxiliary uses of fire, such as the use of smoke signals in the daytime to report battlefield developments

at night, of course, there are the fire beacons and torches (in this case, it's what helped the Cao army organize a hasty retreat)

first in the list would be the defensive fire traps and fire walls Xu Shu unleashed to delay the advance of the Cao army

and it would seem that this was used in different areas, much to the annoyance of the invasion force

second would be Zhou Yu launching fire arrows to smoke out Jia Xu's ambush attempt, during the minor battle to secure control over the long river (eventually Zhou Yu retreated after taking refugees from Jingzhou with him as part of a broader resettlement and development policy)

third would be the fire trap by Guan Yu and Zhang Fei to force Cao Cao to withdraw and buy Liu Bei some more time in his retreat to Xiakou

fourth (and the first round of fire in the Chibi showdown proper) would be Huang Gai's decoy fire attack, blocked by Wen Ping's defensive ship walls

I have to note though that the visual scale in the spreads can be somewhat exaggerated

fifth would be Cao Pi's fake fire attack on empty camps to fool the Sun navy into thinking that Huang Gai succeeded

sixth would be Zhou Yu's second round of fire ships, targeted not so much at the Cao navy, but meant to burn the nearby woods (and the ambushers stationed there)

seventh would be Jiang Qin's infiltration (after Liaoyuan Huo's decoy infiltration baited the countermeasure force under the Xu brothers)

I still wonder though how they were able to dive deep across the other shore while carrying two sets of armor plus the fuel

last would be Lu Meng's fire attacks on the woods as the Cao army is in full retreat

I think Liaoyuan Huo's infiltration force would have done a fire attack as well, but it was thwarted (as part of the decoy scheme)

The ninth, a rather minor use thereof, whereby Zuo Ci put hallucinogenic substances (taken in as vapor) into the fire

in a nutshell, Ravages really knows how to unleash tactics and tricks in different ways (although Ravages doesn't really get into the granular details of how they operate, not to mention that the series favors sneaky maneuvers rather than conventional formation clashes like what Kingdom likes to do)
